Toothwort in the Wye Valley, Peak district, 30th April 2011

Toothwort is a parasitic plant lacking green leaves and chlorophyll.  It is only seen above ground when it flowers; above under Hazel trees.
It was also flowering underneath this fine old Field Maple tree.
The flowers had set seed already.
This is the view from Monsal Head after climbing up out of the Dale below.
