Brown Argus and Wall butterflies on Wolstonbury Hill, West Sussex.

For three and a quarter hours yesterday afternoon I tramped over Wolstonbury Hill and was rewarded with a profusion of Common blues, Meadow browns, Skippers, Gatekeepers, Marbled whites and Small tortoiseshell butterflies.  It was the tiny Brown Argus that was an added joy to see, above and below on "The Pride of Sussex", the county flower of Sussex, the Round-headed Rampion.  A Clouded yellow flew past at high speed on a couple of occasions with no chance for a photo'. 

 Greater Knapweed is bursting into flower and nearby was an exquisitely decorated Wall butterfly.
