Mount Caburn today plus Pyramidal Orchids

Pyramidal orchids are just starting to flower on the South Downs, here near Mount Caburn.

The fortifications at Mount Caburn, dating back millennia to pre-Roman times are still impressive.
Click here to go to David Staveley's great web site for detailed info' on this ancient hill fort.

Approaching the fort.
The scale of the defences on the northern side are huge compared to say, Wolstonbury Hill.
There seems to be a double line of defencive walls and ditches.
Above is a more than 180 degrees view from above Alfriston in the east to Lewes and beyond in the west.  Pan across to see it all.
