Food security and reducing food miles: growing rice in Sussex

Mike and Derek planted Oryza sativa, common rice in the Wolstonbury Hill dew pond last June.
“We want to reduce the food miles in our National Trust canteens” says
Mike.  “When we crop our first harvest in 2022 this will be a first
for Sussex and carbon absorbing".

Last year The Friends of Wolstonbury www.wolstonbury.com embarked on a unique botanical experiment, above.

Haywards Heath u3a nature walks group will visit this site this month to see early purple orchids.  https://www.haywardsheathu3a.org.uk/
